Having a nice landlord when you’re renting is definitely a huge blessing. However, not everyone is so lucky.
One Malaysian woman shared her unfortunate experience with her landlord, whom she claimed had little respect for her privacy.
In a series of posts on Threads, the woman said she had rented a room from a Malay couple. Initially, the husband and wife seemed pleasant, but they soon began exhibiting strange and disturbing behaviour.

According to her, the couple would enter the house without permission under the pretext of conducting a “spot check”.
“They were doing a spot check while I was at home, and they entered the house without announcing themselves. Luckily, I heard them and managed to put on my hijab. There wasn’t much to it, so I didn’t think too much about it.”
However, the incidents did not stop there. The woman shared that the couple later returned to the house without prior notice while she was at work.
She added, “They came over without informing me, and I had hung my clothes out to dry that day. I was at work. Mind you, the husband and wife entered the house and would obviously have seen my undergarments hanging to dry. Can you imagine the embarrassment?”
They would stay overnight in the house
As if that were not enough, the woman also claimed that the couple would stay overnight in an empty room in the house.
“I rent one room, so there’s another empty room in the house. The husband and wife would stay overnight there even when I’m at home. What were they thinking? I’m a woman."
"Since I live alone, I don’t always wear appropriate clothing. Once, I had just woken up when the wife opened my room door without permission. Her excuse was that she thought I wasn’t at home. Her husband was also there with her,” she shared.
It is understood that the rental agreement between the woman and the landlords allowed the homeowners to enter the house at any time to repair broken items.
However, the agreement also reportedly stated that the tenant was not allowed to change or add additional keys.

At the end of her post, the woman sought advice from other social media users, explaining that she had just secured a good job in the area and found it difficult to find another room or house for rent nearby.
Unsurprisingly, the post quickly garnered attention from other users, many of whom urged her to move out once her contract ended.
“As a homeowner myself, a landlord shouldn’t behave like that. They should inform the tenant beforehand so the tenant can be prepared. If the tenant is not at home, they should wait until the tenant is present before entering the property. That’s what I did whenever I needed to settle matters in the house.”

Another shared, “I had a similar experience. The homeowner was a man, and all the renters were women. He would come and go as he pleased. When we’re in our rooms, we dress comfortably. He would kick the door to enter the room. In the end, we lodged a police report and moved out.”
