A recent viral video of a child allegedly defecating inside a mall has drawn criticism over public etiquette and parental responsibility.
The incident is believed to have occurred at one of the outlets in a mall in Putrajaya. The video shows the child partially removing his pants before defecating in the middle of the store, while customers can be seen walking in the background.

In a follow-up video, the same child is seen walking towards an adult woman, presumably his guardian. The woman is also seen checking the child’s backside before disappearing out of frame.
According to the user who posted the videos on Threads, the guardian did not offer an apology or inform the staff about what had happened before leaving the store. The user also alleged that the child not only defecated in the store but also urinated at the same spot.
“It’s an unlucky day. A child defecated and urinated inside a premise. To that child’s parents, thanks for not taking responsibility for what happened and leaving the store without saying sorry to the staff or even trying to clean your child’s mess. Another customer was the one who informed us about what had happened."
"In the end, it was the staff who had to clean up after your child’s mess. It was a regrettable incident, and we were appalled at how irresponsible the parents could be,” the user wrote in the caption.
The user later clarified that the staff had to throw away the broom and mop used to clean the faeces. They also alleged that the family involved were locals, not foreign nationals.
Netizens share similar experiences
Needless to say, Malaysians were understandably disgusted by the incident. Others also expressed sympathy for the staff, who had no choice but to clean up the mess.
Meanwhile, some social media users took to the comment section to share similar encounters.
“As someone who worked in the F&B sector for almost 10 years, I unfortunately encountered similar situations a few times. In my experience, I dealt with customers who vomited, children who defecated or urinated in the premises, and kids who stepped on tables with their shoes on, among other things."
"These are disgusting moments, and the worst part is that some parents simply tell the staff to clean up after them, citing the so-called ‘customer is always right’ saying. After their kids made a mess, some even asked to switch to a different table,” shared a netizen.

“There was once a kid from China who peed in the middle of my store. I pulled the kid’s mother aside and told her to clean it. There was an argument, and in the end, she took off her child’s shirt and used it to wipe the urine. I was very satisfied.”

Another said, “I used to work in retail, and there was a customer whose child peed in the fitting room. What baffled me was how the parents just allowed it to happen and wiped the urine with clothes they were trying on. So what did I do? I chased after them and told them to pay for the damaged clothes and take them home.”
