The Malayan Tiger, or more fondly known as the harimau Malaya, is such a majestic creature.
In fact, it is so majestic, a local documentary on the creature has been selected to represent the country in an international film festival.
Heading to the international stage
The New Straits Times reported that the half-hour documentary, 'The Malayan Tiger: It's Now Or Never!', will be showcased at the AVIFF Cannes Art Film Festival next year.Directed by filmmaker Raja Mohamad Amin Raja Azhar of Datu Entertainment and written by Taylor's University's associate professor Joe Qiao Li, the documentary follows a group of Malaysian forest rangers into Taman Negara in Pahang to search for the Malayan tiger.
The documentary also highlights the group's struggles and challenges of protecting the tigers, which is on the verge of extinction as a result of poaching, and the rescue efforts required to keep them alive.
The short film was commissioned by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, and was selected by the Malaysian government for World Tiger Day last year.

The AVIFF exhibition, which takes place during the Cannes Film Festival, has been viewed as a major platform to promote contemporary art by artists from emerging markets.
The exhibition was supposed to take place in May, but it was forced to be postponed till next year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
