Living in the city and doing the 9 to 5 life can sometimes be draining. Author Mary Davis wrote, “A walk in nature, walks the soul back home.” And playing a video of a park on YouTube doesn’t count either. So the next time you feel burnt out, why not head outside to an actual park?

Fortunately, X user @climateaidil has kindly shared a list of easily accessible parks by public transport, including the LRT, MRT, bus, and by walking.

KLCC Park

This 50-acre urban sanctuary includes a two-acre children’s playground, wading pool, jogging track, shelters, benches, patterned footpaths, and sculptures.

This park is accessible by LRT. You can stop at the KLCC Station and take a short walk.

Perdana Botanical Garden

Initially created as part of a recreational park but planted with collections of tropical plants, the garden has been rehabilitated and turned into a Botanical Garden. Make sure to pop by the Hibiscus Park, which includes a 4-metre-high waterfall, pools, fountains and a lovely colonial-style building. They even have the Sunken Garden with a parterre (a flat area in a garden with a formal arrangement of plants or flowers that sort of looks like a maze).

This park is accessible by the MRT. You can stop at the Muzium Negara Station and take a short walk.

Taman Rimba Kiara

This public park is an ecosystem that combines flora, fauna, and Man. Spanning 14.515 acres, it includes three ponds and plants, hardwood trees, ferns, and creepers. It’s usually quiet and empty, so it’s a great meditation place. Note that there are no playgrounds here, though.

This park is accessible by MRT. Stop at the TTDI station and walk through Gate B for 10 minutes.

Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya

The most prominent and well-known park in Petaling Jaya has seven lakes, with extensive jogging tracks circling its beautiful lakes. In addition to jogging tracks, the park has various facilities such as exercise equipment and a skate park. It also boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and badminton courts.

This park is accessible by LRT. Stop at the Glemarie Station and take a short walk from there. It is also near to Paradigm Mall.

Taman Tasik Titiwangsa

The sunset view here is surreal and there are also great skyline views. It is close to the National Art Gallery, so you can head there to soak in some art afterwards. This park includes several children’s play areas, several walking trails, and a cycling track, and it’s so huge there’s even an East and West side. You can even rent paddle boats and kayaks for some added fun.

This park is accessible by MRT. You can stop at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur Station and walk through Gate B for about 10 minutes.

Taman Jaya

Located near Amcorp Mall and a popular park among PJ residents, this tranquil park has a picturesque lake surrounded by trees. Besides jogging, cycling, skateboarding, and inline skating, visitors can also fish here with an MBPJ permit. The Muzium Petaling Jaya is also nearby, and visitors say it is well-managed. It is a clean park with well-kept toilets.

This park is accessible by LRT. You can stop at the Taman Jaya Station (a huge A&W restaurant is here) and walk through Lorong Sultan for about 10 minutes.

Taman Aman

Head here for a peaceful environment. It is a small park with a lake for fishing, a rollerblading area, a playground, and a jogging track. Filled with lush greenery, shady trees, shrubs, and flowers, this is the perfect place for a family picnic. The lights here are also turned on at night, so you can stop by if you’re feeling stressed after facing the rush hour jam.

This park is accessible by LRT. You can stop at the Taman Paramount Station and walk for less than three minutes through exiting Jalan 21/1.

Taman Eko-Rimba KL (Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve)

The main attraction here is the canopy walkway suspended 22 metres above the ground for unique views and is the only canopy-level walkway in the city. Situated within 3km of the city centre, this unique forest park has several nature trails. It also boasts diverse flora and fauna, including various bird species and playful monkeys.

Visitors can also take a guided tour to learn more about the park's history, ecology, and conservation efforts. These tours run at 11 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 4:30 pm, and more information can be obtained from the forest reserve’s dedicated Visitor Centre.

This park is primarily accessible by bus. You can take the GOKL Purple Line from Pasar Seni to Menara Olympia. Alternatively, you can take a 20-minute walk from Bukit Nanas Monorail / Dang Wangi LRT to the entrance.

UM Varsity Lake

Tasek Varsiti is a man-made lake built before Universiti Malaya began. It is considered the heart of UM, and the lake has inspired many undergrads to write captivating lines in praise of it in the past. Activities like kayaking, flying foxes, and birdwatching can be held at the lake.

This park is accessible by LRT and the bus. You can stop at the Universiti-KL Gateway Station and take the T789 RapidKL bus, then stop at the Law Faculty, Engineering Faculty or UM Library and take a short walk.

The Central Park, Desa Parkcity

Part of a prestigious township, it includes a tree-lined 9-foot-wide jogging pathway with loops ranging from 1km to 2.3 km, a landscaped park, a children’s playground with top-notch equipment, and a picturesque lake. It is also just next to the shops and eateries. This is also an excellent place for dog lovers, as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them!

This park is accessible by bus. You can take the T109 from Sri Damansara Sentral and stop in front of The Waterfront Mall, which leads you into the park from the mall with a 5-minute walk. Note: there is no bus shelter at the bus stop.
