6 M'sian Communities You Can Join to Finally Feel Like You Belong Somewhere That Truly Gets You
While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying your own company, life often becomes richer and more meaningful when shared with others. Whether it’s a quiet afternoon reading in the park or an energising outdoor adventure, having someone by your side can turn simple moments into lasting memories.
If you’ve been looking for a sense of connection or just a group of like-minded people to share experiences with, here are 6 welcoming communities in Malaysia that might just feel like home:
1. Teman Girls

Whether you're looking for a companion to attend a public event or simply want to bond with like-minded women, Teman Girls might be the community for you.
To join, just fill out this form. Please note that this community is only open to women aged 18 and above.
Not ready to commit to a community but still want someone to share an experience with? Teman Girls offers that too. Just fill out this form and share the kind of activity you'd like to do with your Teman Girl. A small fee is collected to discourage last-minute cancellations, but part of it may be refunded under certain conditions.

If you're passionate about sketching, KL Sketch Nation is a community worth exploring. Beyond sharing a love for art, they’ve also collaborated with charities and NGOs—making it a great way to expand your network while doing what you love.
Currently, there’s no update on new member intake, but keep an eye on their Instagram for announcements and to admire the beautiful artwork shared by fellow Malaysians.
3. Kuala Lumpur Reads

While many of us turn to social media to escape, Kuala Lumpur Reads (KL Reads) offers a more mindful alternative—reading in public parks.
Founded in May 2023 and inspired by a similar movement in India, this open community promotes reading, recreation, social connection, and the use of green public spaces.
To join, simply head to Perdana Botanical Garden every Saturday at 8:30 am. Bring your own reading materials, a mat, a fan, and an umbrella for comfort.
More info is available on their Instagram.
4. Touch Grass

Exclusively for women, Touch Grass is a community for those looking to reconnect with nature and unplug from digital life.
Founded by friends Naylisa and Asirah, the group encourages outdoor activities as a way to reclaim time from screens.
There’s no formal registration—just show up at their next gathering. Follow their Instagram to find out when and where the next meet-up will be.
5. Cyberjaya Reads

If you're based in Cyberjaya and love reading, Cyberjaya Reads is a great community to join. Inspired by KL Reads, it aims to foster a reading culture in Malaysia.
To participate, bring your reading materials, a mat, and a fan to Taman Tasik Cyberjaya every Sunday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
Find out more on their Instagram.
6. Write Together

Writing can be a solitary pursuit, but Write Together makes it a shared experience.
This community helps writers carve out time to write, build consistent habits, and connect with fellow creatives. To join, you must write during the session and purchase at least one drink from the venue.
Meetings are held:
- Tuesdays, 4–6 pm at Taman Hati SS2
- Thursdays, 7–9 pm at Plump Cafe Bangsar
More details are available on their Instagram.
