Ever swiped left on Tinder until your thumbs felt sore? Been there, done that with the various dating apps on the market like Coffee Meets Bagel and Bumble? Although it may seem like there are many fish in the sea in the world of online dating –– with a few images and lines to go by, it may be hard to judge and meet the person of your dreams.

While it is easy to chat with a stranger without a physical meeting, some tend to ‘ghost’ the other after a few rounds of texting. The problem may also be that it is hard to create a spark with the people you meet on dates, as people tend to take the time to think through their responses before hitting the ‘send’ button online and may not be as witty and interesting in person. This couple both previously tried online dating but to no avail.

Zi Guo, a 42-year-old from China, was going through a tough time in life when his partner decided to end their marriage. Meanwhile, 39-year-old Yih Zhi from Malaysia struggled with her previous relationship due to her hectic schedule and realised that they both had different opinions.

Both who are business owners shared, “Due to our current age and our busy work schedules, we decided to go for a matchmaking service to let a professional matchmaker do the job. Also, we wanted to find a long-term and stable relationship.”

They decided to go try out Dateworks, a Malaysian dating agency founded in 2017 by Joanne Ng, who has a team of certified relationship coaches and matchmakers to help people find a special someone in their lives.

The company not only offers personalised matchmaking services to connect singles locally and internationally but also has confidence coaching as well as personal stylists to help individuals with their personal image and styling.

Zi Guo and Yi Zhi shared how their matchmaker helped them with their journey to find a soulmate, “First, we had a profiling session in which the matchmaker took the time to get to know us and understand our requirements and preferences when looking for a partner.

From there, they understood our values. Throughout my journey with Dateworks, the matchmaker also provided us with constant guidance, support, and advice, especially before and after our dates.”

Some people may be focused on finding their perfect other half, without trying to make improvements on themselves first.

The Dateworks coaching program also helped the couple to understand how healthy relationships work.

Zi Guo said, “I learned that it is not only important for us to build relationships but also to learn to sustain and maintain a healthy relationship. The coaching helped me to learn how to first understand myself better as well as to have empathy to understand my partner better.”

Yih Zi commented, “The most important thing I gained from coaching is personal growth which has helped me to improve my relationship with my current partner.”

The two share a mutual love for hiking and while Zi Guo loves to cook, Yih Zi is a self-proclaimed foodie, resulting in the perfect match. The two have now been dating for six months and are happily engaged to be married.

Zi Guo said, “During our first date, we found out that our values are aligned. We share the same values and beliefs. And having these common interests helped create a strong bond between us.”

Yih Zi remarked, “The partner I'm seeking must be patient and nice, and he must also be considerate of other people. I'm relieved that my partner can meet my needs.”
