Recipe: Siew Yoke (Roasted Pork Belly)
Don't you just hate it when you're craving for some good 'siew yoke' only to find that it's all sold out? Well, now you’re no longer at the mercy of that uncle and his undeniably bloody good roasted pork belly. You can make it yourself! And it’s not all that difficult, really. Here’s how:
INGREDIENTS
- Sesame Oil
- White Pepper
- Five-spice Powder
- Rice Wine
- Vinegar
- Salt
- One slab of pork belly
METHOD
- Clean the pork belly slab
- Jab the skin of the pork belly using a spiked meat tenderizer (do this vigorously)
- Rub the sesame oil, rice wine, white pepper, salt and five-spice powder on the meat and sides (NOT the skin)
- Leave it overnight to marinate
- On the next day, clean the skin of the pork belly, wiping off excess moisture
- Brush some vinegar and rub some salt (both coarse/fine is alright) on the skin
- Throw it in the oven
Enjoy that crispy piece of goodness. Praise the lard. Watch the preparation video below:
