This RM14,500 Bag from Balenciaga Looks Like a Mak Cik’s Grocery Shopping Bag

The luxury house has been frequently trolled in the past for its bizarre items, and we’re starting to think that they’re doing it on purpose. Last year, they debuted a terry-cotton Towel Skirt priced at RM3,200, which looked ridiculously like someone dressed like they’d just come out of the shower. IKEA UK also took a playful jab at the Paris-based Maison.

In fact, they have a history of replicating items from IKEA but with hefty price tags. Back in 2017, their $2,145 Blue Shopper Tote looked uncannily like IKEA’s RM2.90 Frakta carrier bag.

Now, Malaysian TikTok user @fishmeatdie has posted his sighting of the Men's Antwerp Medium Tote Bag, which looks like something you could get from Jaya Grocer. “It looks like plastic but is actually made of Nappa leather”, the video said. “It’s kind of giving IKEA”, he added.

From the Balenciaga Summer 24 collection, the bag comes in two designs, ‘white berries and bread’ as well as ‘black veggie and strawberry’. With an RM14,500 price tag, it comes with the Balenciaga logo engraved on its two handles, a Balenciaga logo printed on the front and back, aged-silver hardware and even an inner zipped pocket.

But we don’t think that this justifies the insane price, and in fact, the bag from Hero Market looks even better.
