“Aircond in every room, split bills with landlord” – M'sian Tenant’s Absurd Demands Leave Many Confused

While it’s normal to negotiate certain terms before renting a house, some demands can leave others scratching their heads.

That was exactly the case for one Malaysian real estate agent. In a Facebook post, the agent shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation with a potential tenant whose requests were anything but ordinary.

At the start of the conversation, the client expressed interest in renting the property. However, she added that there were several conditions the landlord needed to fulfill before she would even consider viewing the house.

When the agent asked what those conditions were, the client began listing a series of demands that left him baffled.

Here’s what she asked for:

  1. Air conditioners to be installed in every room because “the weather is hot these days.”
  2. Electricity and water bills to be split 50/50 with the landlord if the total exceeds RM200.
  3. The entire house to be repainted white.
  4. Countertops and kitchen cabinets to be installed, as she has many cooking items.
  5. No utilities deposit, unless the account is under her name.

And if that wasn’t enough, she insisted that the rent be fixed at RM1,000 per month and refused to sign a tenancy agreement, saying she didn’t want to be bound by any terms.

Stunned by the list, the agent suggested she consider buying her own home, and even offered to help her with the process.

But the client quickly replied that she couldn’t afford to purchase a house.

Unsurprisingly, the post attracted plenty of attention online, with many social media users calling the client unreasonable.

“Just ignore her. Did the homeowner live in the same house as her that she demanded the owner to split the utilities bills?”

“Wow. If the homeowner somehow agrees to her demands, please tell me, I want to outbid her. I also want to live in a house where I can switch on the aircond 24/7 and skip paying rent,” said another user.
