Ananda Krishnan's Wake Attended by Hundreds, Crowd Lines Up to Pay Final Respects
On 28th November 2024, it was reported that the founder of Astro Malaysia Holdings, Ananda Krishnan Tatparanandam had passed away at the age of 86.

His passing has left a mark in many industries within Malaysia including Maxis Berhad. The late tycoon was also listed as the third richest individual in Malaysia by Forbes Magazine in April. It is reported that his net worth was around $5.1 billion (RM22.66 billion).
According to FMT, a wake was held yesterday evening for the late businessman at his family home in Jalan Berhala, Brickfields. It was reported that about 200 people had queued up outside the home to pay their final respects.

The wake was a tightly controlled event with reporters barred from entering or taking photos of the premises. The family had also requested that the wake be a quiet event and that no garland, wreath, or flowers be sent.
Among the notable spotted among the mourners was J Loga Bala Mohan, the president of the People's Progressive Party.

“As an Indian layman, he inspired me as the first Indian billionaire in Malaysia. We can't deny he was one of the biggest contributors to the growth of this country. I'm paying my last respects to him as an Indian and Malaysian,” said a businessman Praveen Maniam.
Meanwhile, ex-Astro employee, Vignesh Nambiar, 43, on the other hand, said that the late Ananda had inspired him since he was young with his foresight on technology. He also lauded his work in the nation's telecommunications and satellite industries.
“He could've done this elsewhere but still did this for Malaysia. He put Malaysia on the global map,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amar G Krish Kumar Abdullah, 60, a former Brickfields resident recalled how the late Ananda was a very generous person and often did a lot for charity and education.
