While paying for parking using a Touch 'n Go card is no doubt very convenient, a lot of Malaysians are still not doing it because of one reason: we Malaysians are too kiamsap to pay for the surcharge imposed by TnG.

If you're one of those kiamsap Malaysians (don't worry, we are too), this piece of news could be music to your ears.

Right thing to do

On Friday (29 January), Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd has finally confirmed that they will be removing the parking fee surcharge.

Its group chief executive officer Effendy Shahul Hamid told The Star Online in an interview that the company has decided to do away with all TnG parking surcharges after taking into account customers' feedback.

“Customers don’t want the parking surcharge, we’re listening to them.

“Customers are starting to give us feedback in terms of what are the things that we can do and we’re starting to engineer the company around that, ” he was quoted as saying.

Yay to no more surcharge.
Although Effendy said such a move would require some innovation and some sacrifice on their end, he believes that it's the right thing to do.

So, when can we expect the company to eliminate the surcharges? Well, if everything goes according to plan, by the end of the first quarter.

"Basically, we’ve been able to convince our parking operator partners and ensure the surcharge is removed by the end of the first quarter," Effendy was further quoted as saying.

Another big change coming

Eliminating parking surcharges was not the only big thing announced by Effendy during the interview.

Effendy revealed that soon, Malaysians can reload their Touch 'n Go cards directly from their e-wallets, eliminating the need for users to look for places to top up their cards every time their balance runs low (we all know how annoying that is).

According to Effendy, users would need to purchase a special Touch 'n Go card that would enable them to top up their balance from their phones.

However, this special Touch 'n Go card will only go on sale later this year, Effendy said.

Whatever the case, we do believe that these two major changes will make using TnG more convenient, and we certainly do not mind waiting for a bit.
