Dog Attack in Cheras Leaves 6yo Boy with Head Injuries, Police Searching for Owner

A young boy was left bloodied and traumatised after a dog attack near his home in Taman Megah, prompting widespread public outrage over irresponsible pet ownership.

The incident, captured on video and widely circulated online, shows the child fleeing in distress after being mauled by a dog believed to be a domestic pet. The six year old sustained visible injuries but managed to escape the animal’s grip and seek help from nearby residents.

Eyewitnesses rushed to assist the bleeding child, who was reportedly “dripping from the head” when rescued.

A photo shared on Facebook showed the boy dressed in a dark blue T-shirt and long pants, his clothes soaked in blood. The accompanying video has since gone viral, igniting a wave of criticism directed at the dog’s owner.

According to accounts from the scene, the dog was wearing a collar, suggesting it belongs to someone in the neighborhood. Netizens have condemned the owner for allegedly allowing the dog to roam freely, endangering public safety.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that several residents intervened during the attack, successfully driving the dog away and assisting the injured child.

The boy, who sustained head injuries, was immediately transported to Kajang Hospital. He is currently receiving treatment in the paediatric ward and is reported to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, enforcement officers from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) managed to capture the dog. Investigations are underway to determine whether the animal is a registered pet and to identify its owner.

The case is being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code, which pertains to negligent handling of animals. If convicted, the responsible party could face up to six months in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Additionally, the investigation falls under Section 41(1) of the Animals Act 1953, which empowers authorities to quarantine animals involved in biting incidents to test for rabies or other infectious diseases.

Naazron urged the public to get approval from the local authorities before keeping a dog and to ensure their pets are properly controlled to prevent similar incidents.
