Elderly Arrested in Johor for Animal Abuse, Admits to Hitting Neighbour’s Cat Because He Felt Disturbed by It
Yesterday, a video went viral on social media showing a woman making a gut-wrenching discovery—her cat, believed to have been abused, was found injured.
The video, initially shared on Facebook, shows the woman peering into a drain after noticing an elderly neighbour poking at something inside it.
Upon checking, the woman was devastated to find her cat covered in blood. Overcome with anger, she confronted the neighbour before lodging a police report.

According to the woman, her cat—named Manis—was a fully indoor pet. However, on that fateful day, she had forgotten to place Manis in her cage before opening a window. She only realised the cat was missing when she was about to leave for work.
“My cat is an indoor cat and has never left the house, let alone wandered into other people’s homes. I started looking for her immediately after noticing she was gone. I asked around, but no one had seen anything," she said.
"That’s when I noticed the neighbour poking something in the drain. When he saw me, he quickly went back into his house. I went to check and found Manis in the drain, her face covered in blood.”

Neighbour arrested following police report
Following the report, the elderly neighbour—believed to be in his 70s—was arrested at his home in Taman Yayasan, Segamat.
According to Kosmo!, Segamat District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah stated that the police initially received a report regarding the missing cat. After reviewing CCTV footage from the neighborhood, investigators confirmed that the suspect had abused the cat by hitting it and throwing it into an unoccupied house.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the abuse, claiming he was disturbed by the cat.
The case is currently being investigated under:
- Section 428 of the Penal Code (mischief by killing or maiming animals),
- Section 29(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (animal cruelty), and
- Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (misuse of network facilities).
Update on Manis’s condition
In a Facebook update, the woman shared news about Manis’s condition.
According to a screenshot of a conversation with a veterinary clinic, Manis has shown slight movement but refuses to eat unless hand-fed. The woman is now arranging to transfer Manis to another clinic for an X-ray, fearing the cat may have suffered internal injuries from being thrown.
