Dubbed the ‘king of absentees’ by the local media, this Italian man managed to get away with not showing up to work for 15 years!

A record-breaking feat

The hospital worker’s absent years is believed to have broken the national record.

According to a report by Malay Mail, the man first skipped work at the Ciaccio hospital in 2005 but continued to receive his salary.

Since then, he has received a total of €538,000 (RM2.7 million) despite not turning up.

The report detailed that the man is currently being investigated for fraud, extortion and abuse of office.

Six managers at the hospital are also being investigated for permitting the absenteeism.

Police revealed that the man had threatened his manager to stop her from lodging a disciplinary report against him, and when the manager retired, her successor and human resources didn’t notice his absence.

It's crazy to think that he got away with it for so long!
