Sugar daddies and sugar babies have been a hot topic of discussion among Malaysians.

There were many for and against the only "compensated dating" or sugar dating site in the country called Sugarbook.

It was previously reported that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police had launched their own investigations against the site after Sugarbook released "data" claiming that more local students from universities and colleges here had signed up for the app.

Today, news has surfaced detailing how the owner of Sugarbook has been arrested by the police.

According to a report by Malay Mail, Selangor police CID chief SAC Datuk Fadzil Ahmat confirmed the arrest of the owner and said that it was on suspicion of soliciting for prostitution and abusing network facilities.

Cops seeking remand today

The arrest happened at 4.30pm at the Icon Residence, Persiaran Dutamas on 17 February.

The police are also planning on seeking a remand order against the man to aid with investigations under Section 372(B) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Following public outcry over sugar dating, the MCMC eventually blocked Sugarbook but the company skirted around the ban by launching an alternative website instead.
