The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many people not just in Malaysia, but around the world.
Thankfully, there is a little bit of a good news to end the year.
A noticeable drop
Human Resources Minister Datuk M. Saravanan told Malay Mail that the unemployment rate in the country has reduced since June.In May, Malaysia recorded the highest unemployment rate at 5.3 per cent, but now, the rate has dropped to 4.5 per cent.
This was due to the re-opening of many economic sectors after they were forced to close due to the various movement control orders.
“In May there were 821,100 people who were jobless according to the stats by DOSM (Department of Statistics Malaysia). The recovery of the employment rate was seen when it dropped to 4.9 per cent in June itself," Saravanan was quoted as saying.
And here's the good news: the Ministry expects the rate to continue dropping this month and the trend will continue well into 2021.
“It’s expected the unemployment rate will drop in December as well till 4.5 per cent and will continue till 2021,” the minister informed the Parliament.
This is certainly good news, and we really hope that the unemployment rate continue to drop.
