The subject is aimed at strengthening students’ personal and character development.

In a report by Kosmo!, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the MOE is already preparing for the subject’s implementation, which will begin at the preschool level.
Additionally, Fadhlina stated that Pendidikan Karakter will serve as the backbone of the 2027 School Curriculum, which focuses not only on academic learning but also on values, morals, and personality development.
This new approach aligns with the ministry’s goal of nurturing students who are not only academically capable but also grounded in strong moral values.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina also shared that the MOE conducts mental health screenings twice a year to identify students who may be struggling.
Students showing signs of depression or emotional distress will be referred to professionals, including those from the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“Interventions through psychiatrists are already underway, but with new reforms, these efforts will be further strengthened through more training and immediate programmes,” she said.
Fadhlina also emphasised that parents play a crucial supporting role in their children’s mental and emotional well-being at home.
