PLUS Highway Toll Plazas Are Now Cashless
In Malaysia, we have an addendum to the famous idiom of death and taxes, it goes "... but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes, and tolls."
According to FMT.com, all 94 toll plazas along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Elite Highway are now cashless.
PLUS Malaysia Bhd managing director Azman Ismail told reporters that there would be no more cash transactions at PLUS toll plazas.
Motorists are now required to pay using electronic cards, namely PLUSMiles, Touch 'n Go, and SmartTag. You can also top-up your MyKad if you're in a pinch.
For those of us who are never sure how much they have in their Touch 'n Go cards, Azman Ismail assures us, “Sales and top-up lanes will be opened to enable the road users to purchase their electronic cards upon entering the highway."
According to the article, SmartTAG lanes are capable of handling 16 vehicles per minute, T'nG lanes 10, and cash lanes only three cars per minute.
This doesn't take into account the cars whose SmartTAG devices don't work most of the time. And it doesn't take into account the slow dance the driver has to do to get his car into position to tap the T'nG reader while cars behind him honk and reverse out and switch lanes.
