Sadly, we've been hearing a lot of news about deforestation or cutting down of trees for some development projects.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), meanwhile, in planning to take a different route.

Great effort

In a bid to preserve old shade trees in the city as natural heritage, the DBKL will be labelling them as ‘Pokok Berusia’ (old tree).

According to a Bernama report quoting a statement from DBKL, the labelling exercise will be part of an environmental education programme for city folks.

DBKL said among the chosen trees to be labelled include the Angsana trees (ptereocarpus indicus willd) at Jalan Ampang, tge Yellow Flame trees (peltophorum ptereocarpum) at Jalan Syed Putra and the Rain trees (albizia saman) at Jalan Mahkamah.

The council said the trees were chosen based on several criteria, such as its special value, their size, the uniqueness of the species, and providing aesthetical value.

Protect them at all cost!
“We will observe the trees periodically and implement intensive recovering measures for selected trees,“ it said.

DBKL also said they will be conducting periodical checks on the trees to ensure that they are not damaged.

In case you didn't know, most of the shade trees in the city were planted way back in the 1980s in a bid to beautify the city.

It will be a shame if we cut down the trees for some stupid reason, right?
