It's never too early to learn about important issues such as climate change and do something about it.

Secondary school students from 50 schools in five states are learning this important lesson, thanks to Yayasan Petronas through its Sentuhan Harapan – All About Youth (AAY 2019) programme.
Students from Sabah sharing their ideas
The programme aims to transform Malaysian students into agents of change by allowing them to turn their ideas into powerful solutions.

The Form Two to Form Four students from schools in Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu, Melaka and Johor will develop and implement sustainable community projects that'll help reduce carbon emission.

Teachers and volunteers from Petronas will be assisting the students with their projects so they're not left foundering.
Petronas volunteer helping some of the students
Yayasan Petronas Chief Executive Officer Lita Osman said through AAY 2019, Petronas is encouraging youths to address issues which can positively impact the society.

“We want to help develop citizens who care for the planet and embrace sustainable development by creating opportunities for students, particularly from rural areas, to turn their ideas into impactful inventions.

"They can transform concepts into action by applying their knowledge in science, technology, mathematics and engineering,” she said.

Science is cool
Lita added that the organisation believes AAY 2019 will provide students with the skills on creative, lateral thinking and collaborative work to help them develop capabilities to become future leaders.

A new feature has been added to the annual programme - Technology Toolbox - which will allow students to submit functional prototypes to compete during the Chairman’s Circle championship in December, that offers a grand prize of RM30,000.

Good luck, guys! We hope your projects will help the local communities and your prototypes become something that can be used around the world to reduce carbon emission.
