“Such an embarrassment” - 10 M'sians Fined RM649 Each & Deported For Illegal Street Racing in Thailand
A group of Malaysians has been dubbed ‘an embarrassment’ by local netizens after being caught street racing illegally in Thailand.
According to Malay Mail, the group—aged between 21 and 25—was arrested after Thai police received reports of loud noises and traffic disruption near the Greenway Night Market in Hat Yai.
Deputy Chief of Thailand's Tourist Police (Region Seven), Lieutenant Colonel Sakarin Anusaman Sakul, stated that with the help of CCTV footage, authorities were able to identify the Malaysian-registered cars racing around Hat Yai.

The group, which included both men and women, was fined 5,000 baht (about RM649) under Thailand's traffic laws. In addition, six vehicles—including models like the Honda Civic Type R and a Mercedes-Benz—were confiscated.
Each member of the group is facing four charges: obstructing traffic, reckless driving, illegal vehicle modifications, and non-compliance with mandatory vehicle equipment requirements.

To express remorse, the group reportedly performed the traditional Thai “wai” gesture to apologise for their actions and promised not to repeat the offense.
It is understood that the group had entered Thailand on May 16 for a weekend trip using six sedan cars. Following their arrest, they were subsequently deported back to Malaysia.
Unsurprisingly, their actions have drawn heavy criticism from the Malaysian public. Many felt the punishment by Thai authorities was appropriate, while others expressed concern that such behaviour could tarnish the reputation of other Malaysian tourists.
“Serve them right. Such an embarrassment to bring your bad attitude when visiting other countries. You should be grateful that you weren't thrown in jail.”

One user said, “The fine is not enough. They should be jailed too for behaving badly in another country.”

“Because of these people, other Malaysian tourists and their families could face problems with the Thai police,” commented a user.
