Living in big cities like Kuala Lumpur may not be the key to happiness, as the latest research reveals that KL and Selangor rank among the lowest in the ‘Happiest Malaysia State’ data.
According to the Malaysian Happiness Index (MHI), Terengganu has emerged as the happiest state in Malaysia with a score of 8.64, placing it at the top alongside two other states, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, which are also classified as ‘very happy’.

Nevertheless, the data shows that Malaysia as a whole falls under the ‘happy’ category, with an overall score of 7.60 out of 10.
For context, the index measures happiness levels across four main dimensions: physical, social, emotional, and spiritual.
