Chloe Zhao made headlines after she walked away with the ‘Best Director’ title, making her the first Asian woman ever to win the accolade.
The 39-year-old filmmaker directed the film 'Nomadland', a movie about real-life nomads who star alongside actress Frances McDormand to show the lives of older Americans who travel from job to job to try and scrape together a living.
By winning the award, she also became the second woman in history to clinch the Besst Director Oscar statuette, after Kathryn Bigelow won the award in 2010 for the film ‘The Hurt Locker’.
Zhao was born in China and lived in Beijing until age 14, when she went to boarding school in London and later finished high school in Los Angeles.
Marvel fans can also expect her next masterpiece via ‘Eternals’, which is slated for release in November 2021.
Congrats Chloe! Now we wonder when will Malaysia make it to the Oscars.
If you missed the live screening, you can catch the repeat screening of the 93rd Acacemy Awards on Hello (CH 702) or Astro GO tonight at 8pm.
