Projek: High Council is one of Astro’s hottest premium dramas to date. At the height of its popularity, the series trended numerous times on social media. Unfortunately, a number of episodes and clips from the series were leaked and posted on sites.

However, a 22-year-old computer science student was fined by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court for possessing an unauthorised link to a popular Malaysian TV drama series called Projek: High Council. The student was charged under Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for having the link on his devices without permission from the IP owners.

The police received a report on 11 February 2023 and raided his premises on 14 February 2023. The accused’s mobile phone and laptop were seized, and he was detained for two days for investigation.

The student pleaded guilty and paid a fine of RM600, as per Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Under this section, possessing or conveying anything that may be suspected of being stolen or fraudulently obtained without accounting for it can result in a fine of up to RM1,000 or imprisonment for a year, or both.
