Kau vs Aku excelled in their first episode, drawing much attention among the Gen Zs and Millenials. The first episode introduces the premise and sets the tone for the series as Aulia meets his arch nemesis Danish Aryan for the first time.

SPOILER ALERT

Episode one wraps up with Danish’s unpleasant surprise of appearing in front of Aulia’s house. The second episode picks up from the intense cliffhanger ending of the first one. In utter shock, Aulia interrogates Danish on his intentions. The series, adapted from Shieyruna’s novel on Wattpad Webtoon Studios, takes a different turn when Aulia blackmails Danish for a favour - to become her boyfriend for a day, which ends up adding more tension between the two.

This episode explores more of Aulia’s feisty side, which is most probably a counterreaction to her father’s strict and very Asian-style parenting. Her father, Encik Ridhuan, written to be a typical, strict, Asian father, still suffers from the loss of his mother. Predictably, he projects his insecurities and expectations onto his children which somehow shaped Aulia’s fear of emotional confrontation and connection.

Aulia’s mother, Puan Shikin, holds the fort in the family. She understands her husband’s emotional struggles and unrealistic expectations of her children and at the same time, believes in Aulia’s pure intentions, wants and needs. Juggling between the two, Puan Shikin’s own personal conflict may just be explored soon.

The writing in episode 2 improves tremendously as the story goes on. The direction of where the story will go may be expected, but the manner in which director Shamyl and his writers bring you around is an absolute treat. We are finally seeing glimpses of the enemies-to-lovers arc we all yearn for so the question is no longer if, but when.

Another interesting part of Episode 2 was the introduction of Ustaz Burn, played by Megat Shahrizal. The acting, the character, the dialogue - we all know at least one Ustaz Burn in our lives and he looks, sounds and scolds you in a similar way. Okay, maybe our own version of Ustaz Burn wears a songkok, but you get what I mean.

Episode 2 is now up on Sooka. Check it out right here.
