92% of Malaysian employees are career cushioning

Career cushioning basically means the employee is future proofing their careers in case of an unexpected firing. Malaysia has the most ‘cushioners’, followed by Singapore (84%), New Zealand (70%), Australia (66%) and the United Kingdom (63%).

The fact isn't too surprising, what's surprising is that it isn't 100%. Isn't it just good sense to have a backup plan? That said, it does reflect poorly on the state of employment in Malaysia when its employees are always on high alert of being fired.

Lateral movers jump to 48% from 35% in 2021

Meaning, more people are hoping to get promotions within their own organisations. So, line managers, you should also be on the lookout.

How do these respondents think they will get promoted? 49% surveyed said they were "taking on new responsibilities".

In parallel to this is the reasons for why employees want to move in the first place. The top 3 reasons why people seek new roles?

And their biggest motivating factor for moving? It's pretty obvious, 53% said they would move for a higher salary. The biggest motivating factor for staying in a company? Again, 43% said money. 21% said better reward and recognition program, but don't listen to them employers, we need more money.
