Ask anybody who likes buying stuff online, and they would most probably tell you that their biggest fear is getting scammed.

You order one thing, but the seller sends another - or worse yet, the order never comes.

For this one man in India, he did receive his order, but it was not what he paid for.

What a scam!

The man from Kerala, India became a victim of a scam when the iPhone he ordered turned into a bar of soap.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the man who goes by the name of Noorul Ameen ordered an iPhone 12 through e-commerce site Amazon on 12 October.

The regular customer of Amazon, who paid RM3,923 for the iPhone, then became suspicious after his order was halted in Salem for a day after being dispatched from Hyderabad. Most packages arrived from Hyderabad to Kochi in two days, but his iPhone 12 order took three days.

His suspicions led him to open the box in front of the Amazon delivery partner, while he rolled the camera, upon receiving it on 15 October.

While the package felt similar in weight to an iPhone, he was shocked to discover nothing but a bar of soap and a 5 rupee coin (30 sen) inside.

Yep, he definitely got scammed.

Noorul immediately alerted Amazon customer care and filed a police complaint.

Police investigation revealed that the iPhone was being used by someone else in Jharkhand since 25 September.

“We contacted the Amazon authorities and the Telangana-based seller. The phone has been in use in Jharkhand since September 25 this year, even though the order was placed only in October.

"When we contacted the seller, he said the phone was out of stock and that the amount paid by Noorul would be returned,” a police officer told the New Indian Express.

Thankfully, the amount that Noorul paid for his iPhone 12 has been reimbursed to him.
