Hate wearing face masks, especially in the pandemic era when you are required to wear them at all times?

Well, here’s a reason for you to love wearing them.

Brings attention to the eyes

A study in the journal 'Cognitive Research: Principles and Implication' found that people are seen as more attractive when they're wearing a face mask.

The research was conducted by Oliver Hies and Michael B. Lewis of Cardiff University.

According to a report by Mashable SEA, previous studies before the pandemic showed that face masks were associated with disease, which lowers the attractiveness score.

"We wanted to test whether this had changed since face coverings became ubiquitous and understand whether the type of mask had any effect,” Lewis was quoted as saying.

In the study, female participants were asked to rate four pictures of the same man with different face coverings: a medical mask, a cloth mask, a book covering half his face, and no covering at all.

Most of them gave the highest score for the picture with a medical mask.

A yet to be released second study on men showed similar results, confirmed Lewis.

"Our study suggests faces are considered most attractive when covered by medical face masks. This may be because we're used to healthcare workers wearing blue masks and now we associate these with people in caring or medical professions.

"At a time when we feel vulnerable, we may find the wearing of medical masks reassuring and so feel more positive towards the wearer."

Lewis said people may find those who wear masks attractive because it draws attention to the eyes.
