Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world, built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died during childbirth.

If Shah Jahan’s undying love is a tale from the past, in the present time, we have Terry Edgell, who actually bought a castle for his wife Jude.

Raised the bar real good

According to a report by Daily Mail, Edgell had asked Jude for a ‘serious chat’ one day.

Initially, Jude thought her husband wanted a divorce, but she later found out that he had bought a castle for her.

The castle was built in 1790 for Lady Barbara Vernon and was then left to her friend Miss Emilia Gwinnett.

The report said that it has always been Jude’s childhood dream to live in a castle.

The couple was viewing some holiday homes in Spain but decided to view a 200-year-old Penllyn Castle near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, out of curiosity.

Edgell later secretly put in a bid for the castle without Jude’s knowledge.

"I thought he was going to say divorce and he was very quiet, but he said 'It's too late, they accepted a bid on the castle'. I didn't believe him, so I checked on Rightmove and it said 'sold subject to contract'", Jude was quoted as saying.

Jude added that she wasn’t cross about it, but instead, she felt happy because she’d always loved it, and scared because going to change things.

Jude added that the castle was very familiar to her as she has lived by it.

"I remember when I was about 25 riding by it and I thought: 'Oh my god, I can't believe people live in houses like that.' When I walked into the drawing-room on that first day all the hairs came up on the back of my neck, and I still get that pull now, that connection."

Jude is fully in charge of the renovation works of the castle, which has been ongoing for the past three years. The couple is expected to move in in 2024.

Wow, Edgell sure raised the bar real high for all the men out there, huh?
