Starting from next week, we can expect more heavy downpour and thunderstorms.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement quoted by Malay Mail, that the monsoon transition phase, which will be starting on 16 March, will be bringing along strong winds, heavy downfall and thunderstorms.

The downpour and thunderstorms can be expected in the evenings for a short period of time, MetMalaysia said.

Its director-general, Jailan Simon, said in the statement that the weather conditions were expected to occur in most west coast states and the interior of the peninsula, as wll as the west coast of Sabah and the western and central parts of Sarawak.

This marks the end of the Northeast Monsoon, Jailan said.

Be prepared to get wet.
On top of the thunderstorms, Jailan also warned that the heavy downpour could cause flash floods.

“These weather conditions have the potential to cause flash floods and damage to unstable infrastructures,” he said in the statement.
