What could be more patriotic than paying your taxes and summons to make sure that the country has the resources to run well? Probably many things, but paying your dues is definitely up there in our books.

If you've been meaning to pay off all your traffic summons that you got from the Road Transport Department or Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) but have been pinched for money, now is your time to pay off at least a part of it.

Merdeka discount for all

According to a post on Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong on Facebook, a 70 per cent discount will be given to Malaysians to help them settle their traffic summonses from 1 to 31 August, in conjunction with the Merdeka month.

The discount applies to summons issued under the Road Transport Act 1987, Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987 and Land Public Transport Act 2010.

This will include all your speeding tickets, summons issued for driving dangerously, under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other.

Even if you've been blacklisted, you're still entitled to the discount. However, you will have to go to the RTD office near you to make payments.

Otherwise, you can make your payments online via services such as mySIKAP JPJ, Kiosk JPJ and JPJ Mobile.
