Princess Diana was a well-loved icon across the world, primarily remembered for all the humanitarian work that she was involved in.

Many fell in love with the demure, fashionable yet down-to-earth princess who died tragically in a car accident in 1997.

Many documentaries and films have since featured Diana but the latest one called 'Spencer' will see Kristen Stewart playing the princess.

According to a report in AFP, the film will portray the princess' life over a holiday weekend set in the early 1990s.

The weekend was said to be when she decided to leave her marriage to Prince Charles.

A talented actress

The film is written by Steven Knight and produced by director Pablo Larrain.

"Kristen is one of the great actors around today. To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need."

"I think she's going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time," said Larrain.
