How often do you utilise the public transportation infrastructure here in Malaysia? With the addition of the new LRT and MRT lines, more Malaysians are becoming frequent commuters to save on petrol and avoid traffic jams on the road.

This may come as a surprise to some of you with the rising cost of living in the city but apparently, we’re getting better quality transport services here for the same cost compared to our neighbours in Southeast Asia!

According to FT Confidential Research, Malaysians get to spend less of our income on transportation services but we still get to enjoy higher standards compared to other countries in the region.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Competitive Index 2016-2017 released in September 2016 also revealed that Malaysia ranked 11th place among 138 countries in transport infrastructure, scoring 5.7 out of 7!

“Malaysia’s high WEF scoring can be explained by its having made large infrastructure investments earlier than other Asean countries,” the FT firm said, as quoted by Malay Mail Online.

Malaysians were also seen investing more in public transport in 2016 compared to 2015, according to the report.

This year should be no different following the opening of the landmark Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line and more to come in the near future.
