The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of strong Southwesterly winds with a speed of 50 to 60kmph and waves of up to 4.5m-high expected in the waters off Phuket, Reef North, Layang-Layang and Palawan until Saturday.

Due to Typhoon Sarika, this serious condition of strong winds and rough seas will be dangerous for any kind of shipping and coastal activity, including fishing and ferry services.

The waters of Northern Straits of Malacca, Condore, Sulu, Labuan and Reef South will also experience strong 40 to 50kmph winds and waves up to 3.5m this week.

All water activities, including small crafts, recreational sea activities and sea sports in those areas are to remain on alert until Saturday.
