A van belonging to a local animal rescue organisation was reportedly involved in an accident while en route to a pet expo in Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur.
The accident, which took place on Sunday (12 April), occurred after the van, belonging to Shikin’s Team Animal Rescuer (STAR), stopped on the emergency lane of the North-South Highway near Simpang Ampat.
It is understood that the van was travelling from Melaka and had stopped due to engine problems, as well as to fix some cat carriers that had fallen.
According to the team’s Instagram Stories, prior to the accident, Shikin and her husband had exited the van, leaving Shikin’s sister and a volunteer inside with all the animals.

Suddenly, a lorry crashed into the rear of the van. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, and Shikin’s sister was thrown out of the van.
At the time of the accident, the van was carrying 20 cats and five dogs, including one three-legged dog.
Some animals survived, while one cat was killed at the scene.
The accident caused Shikin’s van to be completely damaged. In addition, three of the cats died after being run over.

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post, fellow pet rescuer Shima Aris shared that some of the cats remain missing, while others have been successfully rescued.
At the same time, two dogs, including the three-legged dog, were found.
