It is well known that by the end of September this year, all Malaysians aged 16 and above with a valid driving licence will be entitled to 300 litres of RON95 petrol per month, priced at RM1.99 per litre.
This initiative, called BUDI95, was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and aims to ease the financial burden on Malaysians.

In a report by Harian Metro, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said that although the government cannot guarantee the RM1.99 price for RON95 will remain forever, it is committed to maintaining the current rate for now.
“We cannot guarantee that the price will remain that way permanently, as it depends on market conditions. However, the government won’t be reviewing it anytime soon, as this was a promise made to Malaysians,” he said.

For context, while Malaysians with a MyKad and a valid driving licence will enjoy RON95 at RM1.99 per litre, the price for foreigners and ineligible private or commercial vehicles will be determined by an automated pricing mechanism to be announced later this month.
However, the current rule barring foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing RON95 fuel remains unchanged.
