Can you imagine drawing the curtains of your apartment and looking down only to be greeted by a deep watery sinkhole?

This must be precisely what residents at a condominium at U Thant in Ampang Hilir are going through.

A huge (and scary-looking) sinkhole opened up at the border of their property, causing damage to the compound wall and road.

Scary!

Rainy conditions could have caused it

According to a post on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)'s Facebook page, the incident which happened at 16, Jalan Taman U Thant, occurred at around 3.35pm on 19 July.

"Investigations show that trees and a Telekoms cable pole almost collapsed due to the sinkhole. There is also water flowing in the sunken area," wrote DBKL.

They also said that their Rescue Squad had closed the area as a precautionary measure and informed Air Selangor of the incident for further action.

"Members of the public are advised to refrain from visiting the area and (if you're already in the area) adhere to the signages placed there," they said.

We hope that the authorities manage to pinpoint the exact cause of the incident and fix it soon!
