Thailand has long been a popular holiday destination among Malaysians. However, it appears that Malaysians and other foreign tourists planning to visit the country will soon be required to pay an entry fee of RM40 (THB300).

According to a report, the Thai government will begin collecting the fee within the first four months of its new administration, as announced by the Tourism and Sports Minister.

The fee is intended to generate new revenue streams and enhance visitor safety.

“The entry fee can be viewed from two perspectives. While tourists may see it as an added burden, the government will ensure they understand that the additional 300 baht will improve their safety, welfare, tourism infrastructure, and overall convenience,” the Minister said.

For context, the fee, locally known as ‘Kha Yeap Pan Din’ (translated as ‘stepping onto Thai soil’), was initially planned to be introduced by the end of 2025. However, it was later postponed to mid-2026.

Thai officials hope the new entry fee will be accepted as a small price to pay for a safer and smoother travel experience.

If implemented as scheduled, Thailand will join the list of countries that impose an entry fee or tax on foreign visitors, such as Malaysia, Japan, and France.
